Gorgeous only begins to describe this carefully researched and thoughtfully crafted book. An opening portrait of William Carlos Williams appears opposite an epigraph excerpted from his poem, “Pastoral”: “When I was younger / it was plain to me / I must make something of myself.” It is the perfect introduction to Williams, who managed to write forty-eight books of poetry and prose while maintaining a family practice for more than forty years.
